Salary revision

Work on the 2026 salary revision is ongoing. The new salaries will apply from 1 October 2026.

The salary ladder for doctoral students has already been negotiated. The new salaries will be paid with the October salary.

For other staff members included in this year’s salary revision, the aim is for the new salary to be paid with the December salary. At that time, the retroactive salary from 1 October will also be paid out.

Salary-setting dialogues or local union negotiations?

Saco-S members at the University Administration, Internal Audit and University Library have salary-setting dialogues. This means you should have at least two dialogues with your manager on your performance and salary.

The rest, that is, the majority of Saco-S members at Uppsala University, are covered by local union negotiations. In this case, you should be offered a salary dialogue with your manager. We recommend you also submit a negotiation form, which we will use when negotiating your salary.

The negotiation form is essential

The negotiation form gives us your account of what you have achieved during the year. Without your negotiation form, we have only the employer’s word to go on when negotiating your salary.

We send out the negotiation forms at the beginning of September. The last day to submit the negotiation form to us this year is 28 September 2026.

Please note that doctoral students and those who have salary-setting dialogues do not need to submit the form.

Salary statistics

On our website, you can find salary statistics that are useful when considering how your salary compares with others.

Salary statistics for Uppsala University

Employees on parental leave are included in the salary revision and shall receive an individual salary adjustment as if they had remained in work.

If you have been on parental leave receiving benefits from Försäkringskassan (the Swedish Social Insurance Agency), the retroactive salary is calculated as the difference between your old and new salary, reduced by 10 per cent. The retroactive salary is based on the days on which you have received benefits from Försäkringskassan.

For the retroactive salary to be paid out, you must have submitted supporting documents to HR/Payroll unit to verify your entitlement.

Calculation and payment of the reimbursement take place on two occasions: two months after the rest of the retroactive salaries have been paid out and in September 2027. Supporting documents received after 5 September 2027 will not entitle you to a retroactive salary payment.

Employees on sick leave and those otherwise absent in accordance with the Conditional Agreement are included in the salary revision and shall receive an individual salary adjustment as if they had remained in work.

  • If you have had sick pay deductions or other salary deductions for absence with benefits from Försäkringskassan (the Swedish Social Insurance Agency) from day 15 up to and including day 364, the retroactive salary is calculated as the difference between your old and new salary, reduced by 10 per cent.
  • If you have had sick pay deductions or other salary deductions for absence with benefits from Försäkringskassan (the Swedish Social Insurance Agency) from day 365, the retroactive salary is calculated as the difference between your old and new salary, reduced by 20 per cent.

For the retroactive salary to be paid out, you must have registered your absence before the regular payment of retroactive salaries.

The new salaries for the 2025 salary revision came into effect on 1 October 2025. This means that those who received a higher salary received a retroactive payment from that date.

If you received benefits from Försäkringskassan (the Swedish Social Insurance Agency) between 1 October 2025 and 30 September 2026 and were included in the 2025 salary revision, it is important that you have notified them of your new salary. For the retroactive salary to be paid out for days on which you received parental benefits from Försäkringskassan, you must have submitted supporting documents to HR/Payroll unit to verify your entitlement.

The deadline for submitting this documentation is 28 September 2027.

Non-numerical agreement

Strictly speaking, the Saco-S agreement does not specify numbers, but the departments are, of course, given figures to adhere to. Recently, the University has been clearer than before that the focus is on the salary after the revision, rather than the increase itself. In other words, it is about you receiving the right salary, not the percentage increase you receive.

This means that if two employees have similar duties and perform at a similar level, they should have similar salaries. This, in turn, may mean that an employee with a lower salary before the revision may receive a higher salary increase than an employee who previously had a higher salary. Significant salary differences can sometimes take more than one salary revision to come to terms with.

Salary seminars

Saco-S at Uppsala University usually holds salary seminars where we explain the salary revision process. This year, we have three seminars scheduled via Zoom. Two of them are in Swedish and one is in English.
