Salary adjustment

On some occasions, the head of department can make a decision on a new salary between the. These are, for example:

  1. When changing jobs or tasks
  2. When promoting lecturer to senior lecturer/ associate professor, senior lecturer/ associate professor to professor
  3. In the case of new skills (doctoral degree, excellent teacher, docent)
  4. When returning to work after leave
  5. For special reasons (skill-shortage or key skills).

The information below is based on Guidelines for salary supplements and other terms and conditions, and adjustments of wages in conjunction with promotion and new expertise.

Change of salary upon promotion

Decisions on new salary apply from the end of the month after a decision on promotion is made.

Note: If an associate senior lecturer becomes a senior lecturer, a new individual salary is set.

Promotion from lecturer to senior lecturer

When an employee is promoted from lecturer to senior lecturer, the salary shall be increased by SEK 3 000 per month.

Promotion from senior lecturer to professor

When an employee is promoted from senior lecturer to professor, the salary shall be increased by SEK 6 000 per month.

Change of salary in case of new skills

Decisions on new salary apply from the end of the month after the new title has been obtained. Decisions on new salary do not cover so-called direct promotions, that is, when an employee is promoted in connection with a new hire.

Docent

When an employee under current employment is accepted as a docent at Uppsala University, the salary must be increased by SEK 3 000 per month, on the condition that docent competence is deemed relevant to the position (For employees in the teaching categories and employees with the position of researcher, docent competence is always to be considered relevant to the position.). Acceptance as a docent at another university does not result in a salary adjustment.

Excellent teacher

When an employee under current employment is accepted as an excellent teacher at Uppsala University, the salary shall be increased by SEK 3 000 per month. Acceptance as an excellent teacher at another university does not result in a salary adjustment.

Doctor

When an employee in current employment obtains a doctorate, the salary shall be increased by SEK 2 500 per month, provided that scientific competence is deemed relevant to the position. (Also applies to doctoral degrees obtained at other institutions of higher education. Employment as a doctoral student or assistant with doctoral duties at Uppsala University is not covered by an increase in salary in the event of new skills in the form of a doctoral degree obtained according to this guideline.) (For employees in the teaching categories, scientific competence is always considered relevant to the position.)
