Newsletter: December 2025
In December's newsletter you can read, among other things, that the salary revision for 2025 is complete, about the new vacation agreement for teaching and research staff, and that our office is closed during the holidays. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The 2025 salary revision is completed!
The negotiation on doctoral student salaries was completed on October 23 and all other salaries were completed on November 28. The new salary applies from October 1, which means that all employees who were included in the salary revision will also receive a retroactive payment. The new doctoral student salaries was paid out with the November salary and other employees will receive their new salary with the December salary. Together with the new salary, the retroactive payment will also be paid out.
If you have any questions about retroactive payment, the Saco-S association has made a short video on it which you can find on our website (the videos are in Swedish but has English subtitles available).
Don't forget to notify the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Swedish: Försäkringskassan) of the new salary and the correct date for when the negotiations were completed, so that you receive the correct compensation during parental leave and sick leave.
The employer announces and explains the new salary
We get a lot of questions about what was said during the salary negotiations, but we are not allowed to tell you due to the confidentiality of the negotiations. As an employee, you always have the right to a follow-up salary discussion – regardless of whether you have had salary-setting discussion or whether Saco-S has negotiated your salary. The employer must be able to explain and justify the new salary based on the salary criteria at the university.
New agreement on vacation for teaching and research staff
The unions at the university have terminated the standard vacation agreement (Swedish: schablonsemester) for teachers and researchers, as it has not been followed and have affected many negatively. The new agreement says that all employees can apply for vacation, and only if no application is submitted will the fixed model be used. The fixed model means that all vacation days are scheduled consecutively, starting the week after midsummer. This applies to university teachers, researchers, postdocs, doctoral students, assistants with doctoral student duties and teaching assistants (Swedish: amanuenser).
It is important to remember that vacation is time off. If the employer requires work during the summer – for example for corrections, supervision, thesis work or research – it may not be done during vacation.
Vacation applications must be submitted no later than March 31. If the employer wants to decide otherwise, they must first consult with the teacher concerned, and the decision must be made no later than April 30.
