This doctoral student salary ladder is valid from 2012-10-01.

Year 1: SEK 23 100
Year 2: SEK 24 100
Year 3: SEK 24 600

50 %: SEK 25,900
80 %: SEK 27 500

Upon completing a doctorate, the salary corresponds to the 80 % level as above.

The meaning of "year" is a completed year as a doctoral student/assistant with doctoral grants or in other active research studies in postgraduate level of education (third-cycle) according to an assessment made by the head of department.

The salary is adjusted upwards at the end of the calendar month without a special decision.

Number of percent of the requirements for the doctoral degree that must have been achieved. The head of department makes a decision after consultation with the supervisor. In the normal case, 50% and 80%, respectively, of the requirements for the doctoral degree must be met after 24 and 38 months of full-time studies, respectively. Deviations from this must be specifically justified.

A salary supplement of SEK 3 500 shall be paid to doctoral students/equivalent with a medical degree (Swedish: läkarexamen).

A salary supplement of SEK 5 500 shall be paid to doctoral students/equivalent who are registered doctors (Swedish: legitimerad läkare).

For reasons of recruitment, a fixed salary supplement in the interval of SEK 1 000 - SEK 6 000 (calculated on full-time employment) can be paid to doctoral students/equivalent in market vulnerable business areas. The supplement must be linked to the business or field - not to individual performance or competence. Salary supplements higher than SEK 6 000 can be paid if special reasons exist after consultation with a personel specialist at the unit for employer issues and a decision by the human resources director.
