Salary supplement for head of department and assisting head of department
Head of department
An employee who has been appointed as head of department will receive a salary supplement as per table 1 below. In the event of short-term absence, the head of department is normally covered by a deputy head of department. Salary supplement are not disbursed for the appointment of deputy head of department. If the head of department is absent for more than three consecutive months, the acting head of department will receive a salary supplement in accordance with table 1 for the time thereafter.
When the appointment as head of department terminates, a salary review is conducted and, under normal circumstances, part of the salary supplement becomes a part of the employee's regular salary.
In order to contribute to an employee's repatriation after completion of the appointment, which lasted for at least three years and comprised at least 50 % of full time, the employee is assured the right to own time for skills-enhancing studies and research.

The terms and conditions in accordance with the above, apply in normal circumstances and when the employee remains with Uppsala University. Costs for repatriation, including payroll expenses, are borne by the function that financed the specific appointment, during the repatriation period. The distribution of salary costs that applied during the appointment period also applies during the repatriation period.

Appointment supplement are based on the number of employees at the time of the decision on a particular appointment. Departments and equivalent are divided into supplement groups according to the number of employees. The number of employees refers to the total number of employees regardless of percentage of full-time employment, type of employment or number of employments at a department or equivalent.
Assisting head of department
An employee who is appointed assisting head of department will receive a salary supplement of 50 % of the salary supplement for a head of department, in accordance with table 2. If several assisting heads of department have been appointed, the salary supplement may be lower than this, normally at least 25 % of that of the head of department. In such cases, an assessment shall be made of the scope and complexity of the appointment on a case-by-case basis.
When the appoinment as assisting head of department terminates, there is no coverstion of the salary supplement to the employee's salary.
