Local collective agreement on teaching and working hours etc. for doctoral students at Uppsala University

Section 1
This agreement is concluded with the support of Villkorsavtal chapter 2, section 2.
Section 2
The total regular working hours for each calendar year for doctoral students are:
- 1700 hours for employees with 35 vacation days
- 1732 hours for employees with 31 vacation days
- 1756 hours for employees with 28 vacation days
Section 3
The agreement means that the parties agree that there is an opportunity for the employer, in consultation with the doctoral student, to decide that the doctoral student should carry out teaching as a work task.
Section 3 a
Excerpt from the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 Duties
"Section 2
A person appointed to doctoral studentship must primarily dedicate time to their own studies.
However, an employee may work to a limited extent with education, research, artistic research and administration. Before a doctorate or a doctorate in the fine, applied and performing arts has been awarded, however, duties of this kind may not comprise more than 20 per cent of a full-time post."
Section 4
Teaching and other department duties may be carried out up to a maximum of 20 % of the working hours per academic year for each employee, and restrictions as stated in Section 3 a otherwise need to be observed. Taking into account the requirements of the doctoral program and the doctoral student's wishes, the time for teaching and other department duties can be allocated to longer continuous periods or allocated continuously during the planning period. In addition, the following applies. Teaching must take place within regular working hours. Overtime work may not be ordered for doctoral students. No later than two weeks before the start of the course, doctoral students should find out how the teaching is arranged.
Section 5
When determining the scope of the teaching volume for the individual doctoral student, consideration must be given to pre- and post-work, the degree of difficulty and level of the course, the nature of the teaching and the subject, the structure and method of teaching, as well as the competence and experience of the doctoral student in teaching in the field. The starting point should normally be that a teaching hour (Swedish: lektorstimme), including pre- and post-work, should comprise of four clock hours. For teaching that does not require extensive pre- and post-work, a lower conversion factor can be applied.
Section 6
For scheduled teaching hours that are at least half completed after 18.00 or Saturday-Sunday, a salary supplement of SEK 160/teaching hour is paid as an inconvenient time supplement.
Section 7
If the activities and work tasks permit, and after notification to the head of department/ equivalent, the doctoral student's work tasks may be moved to a different location than the regular workplace.
Section 8
Local collective agreement UFV-PA 2013/2694 on standard vacation also applies to doctoral students.
Section 9
This agreement applies from on January 1 2023 until further notice. A mutual notice period of three months applies.
